Paul Anthony Cox

Paul Anthony Cox, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the age of 74. He was born on April 14, 1949, at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, Ohio, to Monica Antoinette Mickunas and William Patrick Cox Jr.
Paul was drafted and bravely served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating heroism and resilience while serving with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion/12th Infantry, 25th Division, as an Indirect Fire Infantryman. His dedication and service were recognized with numerous medals and awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Overseas Bars, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Army Commendation Medal, Sharpshooter (M-14), Expert (M-81), and Marksman (Pistol .45 Cal).
On June 22nd, 1985, Paul married his beloved wife, Deborah. He was not only a loving husband but also a devoted father who embraced his role wholeheartedly, taking vows not only with his wife but also with her children. Paul was immensely proud of his family and cherished every moment spent with them.
Some of Paul's passions in life included fishing, camping, playing pool, engaging in friendly poker games with his buddies, hosting barbecues, attending Sunday Bible studies, deepening his relationship with Jehovah, and watching football. What he loved most was spending time with his family, watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and laugh.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Monica Antoinette Mickunas and William Patrick Cox Jr., his brother William (Ann) Cox III, his son Robert Greathouse, his niece Jennifer Cooke, and his great-nephew Nicholas Cooke.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah, and daughter, Janet; his sisters, Karen (Corado) Marvin and Michelle (Lyle) Tope; his nephews, Dino Marvin, Nathaniel Cox, Benjamin Cox and Nicholas (Briana) Schreiner; his nieces, Katy (Tim) Miller, Christina (Kayvan) Pirouz, Kristen (Jeff) Kaltenstein, Amber (Eric) Garner, and Abbey (Andrew) Booth; many more great nephews and nieces; his grandchildren, Mickey Brown, Steven (Bryan) Ratay, Jasmin Lunsford, Sebastian Delauder, Christina Greathouse, Emily Schimanski, and Elayna Schimanski; and numerous great-grandchildren.
All are welcome to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Sunday, March 17th from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 18th at 11:30 a.m. Well-deserved military honors will follow the service at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where Paul will be laid to rest.
