Paul Glenn Hersek, 81, of Brimfield, OH, passed away peacefully Sunday morning on February 16, 2014. He was born in Akron, OH on January 26, 1933 to the late Mike and Adeline Hersek. Paul grew up in and raised his family in Tallmadge, OH.
He spent 4 years in the Navy – serving during the Korean Conflict where he sailed around the Korean peninsula sweeping for land mines. It was during his Navy years when he met his good friend, Jack Petty, and soon after another lifelong friend, Bob Berringer. While in the Navy he started enjoying his passion for travel.
He was fortunate to travel to many countries, as well as, all across the US. After his Navy discharge, he worked with his Uncle Glenn who he was particularly close to. He loved to share stories of how ornery they were together. As a younger man, Paul was a member of the Tallmadge Jaycees, a proud member of the Tallmadge Band Boosters where he supported his daughters through their high school years. He enjoyed a 37 year career at Goodyear, starting out building tires and ended up in the research lab. Paul was quick with a smile and a joke, loved spending time with family & friends. He never knew a stranger. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening and playing Euchre.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Bonnie Jacobson in 1993 and Doris Hersek in 2013.
Survivors include his daughters, Suzanne Hersek of Charlotte, NC and Gina (Ray) Holcomb of Westminster, CA; stepdaughter, Karen (John) Wagner of Brimfield, OH; step-sons, Rodney of Tallmadge, OH, Allen of Akron, OH, Stephen (Mary) of Louisville, OH, and Michael (Laura) Williams of Wadsworth, OH; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 19 from 5-7 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a funeral service will be held Thursday, February 20 at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
