Paul F. Long, "Fred", passed away on January 9, 2017 at the age of 80. Fred was a lifelong resident of Stow.
He was born in Akron on September 14, 1936 to Robert Avery Long and Anna Louise Williams. He graduated from Stow High School in 1954 and spent all his working years in Stow. As a youth, Fred worked for Stow Dairy, and from seventh grade until graduation at Stow Hardware. Fred spent 26 years on the Stow Police Department, where he retired as Chief; and then 18 years in the Stow Tax Department. He loved Stow and spent countless hours working to preserve the city's history and wrote two books about the city, earning him the nickname, "Mr. Stow".
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Stebbins Long in 2013 after 55 years of marriage; and by one grandson, Sean Sutton. He leaves behind children, Larry Long, Jennie (Freddie) Sutton, and Paul (Deborah) Long; grandchildren, Kirsten (Shaun) Quinn and Hannah Long; great-grandchildren, Rorri, Mavrick, and Deklin Sutton, and Harley Quinn. Also surviving Fred are his half-siblings, Joanna (Rick) Rocco and Robert Allen (Diane) Long. He will also be missed by brothers- and sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends whom he loved and cherished.
As per his request, there will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held a later date. Memorial contributions may be made, in Mr. Long's memory, to Akron General Hospital, Justin T.
