Paul R. Davis
Paul R. Davis, 84, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2010. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Corps of Engineers. Paul was a member of the VFW Post 8975. He was an antique car enthusiast, enjoyed NASCAR, and loved camping with his family. Paul retired after a long career as a self-employed small engine mechanic, and was also a teacher at Portage Lakes Career Center, teaching a night class from 1982-1984. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret; son, Daniel Davis; grandson, Charles "Butch" Henline; parents, William and Crissie Davis; brothers, William, Gordon, Melvin, and Bud; and sisters, Jane Werner, and Dorothy Brumbaugh. Paul is survived by his children, Margaret Henline, Sally (Kenneth) Tifft, Nancy (Mike) Davis-Mertz, and James (Cindy) Davis; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Curtis (Ida) Davis; sisters, Bernice Held and Hazel Martz; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to Paul's caregiver, Lisa Griffith. A memorial gathering will take place Friday, May 28, from 4 to 6 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a service will follow at 6 pm with Pastor Jeremy Schweyer officiating. The VFW Post 8975 will provide military honors. Burial will take place at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
