THE LIFE AND MEMORIES OF PAULETTE L. MCGREGOR I
On May 27, 1947, in the small city of Akron, Ohio the lives of Johnny and Catherine Epps excitedly changed with the birth of their only child Paulette LaVaughn. She spent her childhood with her parents, in a very closeknit neighborhood in East Akron and attended Robinson Elementary, Goodyear Middle, and then graduating from East High School. Most may remember her being a cheerleader.
Once graduating from East and spending a brief time in college, she could be found floating the floor at O'Neil's Department Store as a Department Manager. She was also employed at U-Haul, Goodyear Research Call Center, and many other jobs. She did some of her best work as a Vista Volunteer and serving on the board at East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation. Though she worked many jobs and held many titles the best one was mother and "NiNi". The title of mother and her love for children would push her far with The Akron Public School Board and PTA. She played an instrumental role in Bell versus Board of Education Akron Public Schools; the lawsuit that established racial balance and reopened neighborhood schools. If you didn't find her gardening in her yard, you would likely find her in the house cooking or baking her famous pineapple upside down cake or sewing.
We know Paulette is resting in Gods arms, with her strong faith and relationship with the Lord. Being blessed and baptized at her childhood church, Greater Bethel Baptist Church, she continued her journey with Christ as a member of Greater Bethel and spending her last faithful days at Kingdom Bible Missionary Baptist Church.
On Sunday July 30th, 2023, surrounded by an abundance of family and even more love, Paulette received her wings. She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine, and Johnny; stepfather Alphonso Harris; sons Kenneth Jones, and Jacques McGregor; grandson Rayshawn McGregor, and granddaughter Alandra Storey.
She leaves to carry on her life and legacy her children: Blese (Maryland) Richardson III, Tamiko Richardson, Marnetta (Garland) Paynther, Shayla McGregor, Paulette (Antrell) Ware; grandchildren: Delaci Wyatt, Shianne McKinstry, Kijana Rogers II, Justin (Lady-Terah) Robertson, DeVaun Hamilton, JaVon McGregor, Alexa Storey, Supriya and Dominic O'Neil, Lashay McGregor, Darryll and Sasha Brooks, Haviland, Eunice and Xavier Jones, Shawda, Antrell Jr and Riaan Ware, and Blese Richardson IV; great grandchildren: Dorian Jones, Darlynn and Dahleeah Wyatt, Justice and Ere's Robertson, Amir Storey and Dalani Hamilton; God sister Sharon Wilson, step brothers David and Scott Harris, special daughters in love Theresa Camacho, Kierra Jemison, and Stacy Jones.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
