Peg (Margaret) Goldsmith

May 18, 1950 — March 25, 2025

Peg (Margaret) Goldsmith, 74, of Mogadore, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the warmth of her home surrounded by music and her loving family on March 25, 2025 after a long but resilient battle with cancer. She is survived by her devoted children, Sean Goldsmith and Susanne (Goldsmith) Cecil; son-in-law, Jon Cecil; her two amazing grandchildren, Cassidy and Mattis; her brother, Bill Muster; sister, Trish (Dick) Swartz; along with beloved nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Peg was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Goldsmith; her parents, William and Pauline Muster; and several treasured friends.

Everyone who ever knew Peg always referred to her as a “wonderful person”, which may be the truest statement one could say about her. She was loving, giving, passionate and had an uplifting spirit that was undeniably contagious. She cared about those she loved and showed them every time she saw them, both in small, everyday gestures and grand, memorable acts. Peg’s zest for life was boundless and she lived it un-apologetically on her own terms.

Peg had her passions, and they were the core of who she was. First and foremost was her family. From the moment she became a mother, she placed her children at the center of her world. She spent her 40’s as a stay-at home mom, building a childhood for her kids that would rival a storybook, and that effort and energy never once faded over the years. From birthday parties to Head Room Mom, from being the coolest sleepover house to summers at Eastwood pool, from pushing us to reach our goals and being there when life would knock us down, she spent a lifetime building treasured memories and setting the benchmark for a parent’s love. It was a love that knew no bounds; she welcomed her son-in-law, Jon into the chaos and warmth of the family like he'd always been there, no questions asked. And her grandchildren? To them she was “Nina” and they held a truly special place in her heart. From the moment she held Cassidy, they shared an unbreakable bond, often found side-by-side in the kitchen, concocting sweet treats and creating precious memories. Mattis, with his goofy antics and warm cuddles, never failed to bring a smile to her face and fill her with laughter. They were, without a doubt, a source of her greatest joy. There is no question on how she earned the name, “Amazing Mom”.

As strange as it may seem, food was a close second to her family. At the forefront of every family gathering, whether that was a major holiday, weekly family dinner, or just a random Tuesday night with friends, the question was always “What are we going to eat?” and that theme became a tradition within the family. As the children grew, we learned to cook and every event seemed to be this competition to outdo the last. The food, especially the desserts, were always indulgent (and dare we even say, excessive?)… but to know mom was to know it was her love language. It wasn’t just about the food, it was about bringing those she loved together and the smiles on their faces as they ate well, laughed, and enjoyed each other’s company.

Beyond her culinary interests was her music. She lived for Doo-Wop and classic 50’s and 60’s melodies. She was an active member of Memory Lane Oldies/Gold Radio, an online oldies/Doo-Wop community for well over 20 years. Peg would tune in each weekend to listen to people from around the country spin her favorite tracks, chat with members from all over, and even occasionally meet up to enjoy the company of these internet friends in person. We would be remiss if we excluded her absolute favorite DJ and longtime companion Cal Lynch who brought incredible joy to her life. Cal not only was an amazing companion, but enabled Peg to experience multiple concerts of her favorite bands, be involved with live interviews, and even acquire a few signatures during personal meet and greets with her musical icons.

If you knew Peg, you know it’s impossible to summarize her life and passions in a few paragraphs. Because of that we welcome everyone reading this to join the family in a Celebration of Life, fun, memories, and of course an abundance of her favorite foods at a later date. Details will be shared on her Facebook once arranged, along with phone calls as the family is able. Per her request no formal funeral arrangements are going to be made at this time.

Peg truly was a gift from God to those who knew her. She is finally at peace and will continue living to the fullest in the life that follows this one.
