Peggy A. Smaldino, 81, of Akron, passed away on April 7, 2025. She was born on June 27, 1943 the daughter of the late Paul and Pearl Coup. Peggy retired after many years of dedicated service from Metro RTA. She was a woman of faith and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Peggy was known for her strong bond with her grandchildren enjoying time spent baking, fishing and many adventures with them.
She was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, Peggy embraced her passion for racing, which also led her to work at the Nelson Ledges Racetrack.
Peggy’s life was filled with meaningful moments that she shared with her family and friends. Her fond memories and joyful spirit will continue to inspire those who keep her in their hearts. She will be missed dearly, but her legacy lives on in the smiles of her grandchildren and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph Smaldino; son Robert Cole-Johnston; and brother Glen Coup.
Peggy is survived by her loving daughter Tammy (Bill Larson) Taubert; step-daughter Deb (Buddy) Estes; "Bonus" daughter Debra Wagner; daughter-in-law Jodi Johnston; grandchildren Joey (Aubrey) Estes, Michael (Destiny Giner) Loughry, and Marissa (Sebastian Caudillo, III) Loughry; great-grandchildren Ricky, Zoey, EmmyLou, AnnaLee, and Marleigh; great-great-grandchildren Oakleigh; sisters Liz Wayand, Alice Johnston, Charlotte (Edward) Mickles; brother Dennis (Terry) Coup; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 15th, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron 44305) where services will be held at 6:00pm.
