TSgt. Philip D. Hill USAF (RET), 70, passed away April 16, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy; children, Teri (John) Pistrui, Cyndi DeMercado, Wendy Wiggins, Phillip (Anni) Hill Jr., David Hill, Patrick (Chris) Hill, Douglas Hill, Marguerite (Paul) Lemmon, and Paul (Stephanie) Hill; sisters, June Kuzmik and Patricia Gipson; sisters-in-law, Ruth Hill, Marguerite (John) Andrews, and Donna Holcomb; brothers, Jim (Lee) Hill and Ed (Kim) Hill. He was "Pappaw" to 23 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. Philip was preceded in death by brothers, Sonny and Dick Hill; brothers-in-law, Rudy Kuzmik, John Gipson, and Gay Holcomb; and sister-in-law, Judy Hodgkiss.
Retired after 20 years of service to his country, he is best remembered as a loveable "Grumpy old man", for his "tall tales", his unique sense of humor and being an avid Browns and Indians fan. His favorite saying was "Don't sweat the small stuff."
Calling hours will be held Friday, April 20, from 4 to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a military service will be held Saturday, April 21, at 10 am with the USAF Honor Guard and Firestone VFW Post 3383 followed by a funeral mass at St. Matthew Church at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help defray funeral costs.
