Phillip A. Thompson, age 64, died Dec. 2 after a short illness. Phillip was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education, and retired after 39 years of service from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Phillip was a loving and giving brother, uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Helen Thompson; and sister, Victoria Gillespie. He is survived by his sister, Pamela Mitan (David); nephew, Brian A. Mitan (Tamara); nieces, Stephanie E. Mitan, Jackie Woody (Terry) and Jil Clark (Sean); and dear friend, Betsy Gossard. Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 7 p.m., at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
