Phillip B. Lewis, 87, died April 10, 2012 after a short illness. He was born January 16, 1925 in Akron.
He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII from 1943-1946. In 1947 he married Lois Trexler and worked as a machinist at Adamson United in Akron before retiring from Altantic Research in Alexandria VA in 1990.
Phil was known for his quick wit and unfailing sense of humor. He loved to get together to play cards and was an avid baseball fan.
He was a member of Community Baptist Church of Tallmadge where he served many years as head trustee.
Phil was preceded in death by his wife Lois, and brother Ondus. He is survived by his son Gary and wife Sandy of Akron; Granddaughters Jill Lewis (Jon Schnee) of Akron and Maren (Gary) Schween of Strongsville; Great-grandchildren Dade, Alexis, Taylor, Natalie and Elizabeth. Also survived by his brother Howard Lewis of Akron and beloved nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday, 5-8 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
