Phyllis R. "Bobbie" Cottle, 73, passed away on January 25, 2013.
After surviving a horrible and traumatic experience earlier in her life, Phyllis went on to inspire others and became an advocate for those afflicted with blindness, other disabilities, and victims of violence. She became an active board member at the Akron Blind Center, where she met her soulmate, Thomas Gearhart. She was a fighter, a survivor and most importantly, a loving mother.
Preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Ethel Grutzmacher; fiancée, Thomas Gearhart; and daughter, Sue Cottle. Survivors include her daughters, Robin Headrick and Dianne (David) Cannady; stepdaughter, Kristen Gearhart; grandchildren, Samantha, Dakota, and Drew; great-grandchild, Brayden; sister-in-law, Barb Starcher; and beloved kitty Sabrina.
The family would like to extend special thanks to her dear friends, Lucy, Gretchen, John and Ann.
Per Phyllis' wishes, cremation will take place and services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Akron Blind Center, 325 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44304 or the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087.
