Phyllis M. Watson (Johnson), 69, resident of Tallmadge, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013 following a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born on May 23, 1944 in Cumberland, MD. Phyllis was raised in Akron, OH where she met her husband Thomas H. Watson at the age of 17 and began her journey as an amazingly devoted and loving wife and mother. She was an incredibly kind and thoughtful sister, aunt, daughter and friend who spread love and compassion along with her wonderful sense of humor displayed throughout her life. After her husband's death in January 2007, she reconnected with an old family friend and began a loving relationship with Dave Ross, a godsend to the family. Words cannot express how much Phyllis will be missed by those who love her.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents James and Carrie Johnson, husband Thomas Watson, brother Jimmy Johnson and sister Barbara Mozer. She is survived by her sons; Steve,Terry and Scott Watson, sister Cathy Cole, brother John Johnson, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way, loving companion Dave Ross and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Dorman, Senior Independence Hospice and Cooper Cancer Center for the compassionate care they gave Phyllis.
There will be a memorial service at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 25, 2013 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305 with Pastor Dwayne Ray officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
