Rae I. Coleman, 91, of Akron, passed away on February 13, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 3, 1932, to the late Alice (nee Asbury) and Vernon Oakley.
In addition to her parents, Rae was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Hunsinger.
She is dearly missed by her husband of 70 years, Carroll Edwin Coleman; sisters-in-law, Louise Claytor, Eleanor (Ronald) Wilkinson and Judy Coleman; and many nieces and nephews.
Rae was a long time member of Springfield Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a choir member, a trustee and served on the veterans and social committees and also as the church financial secretary.
Edwin and Rae enjoyed traveling and camping across the U.S. Though Red and Rae never had children of their own they certainly had family.
Rae was class president and was voted "Wittiest" in her Senior class and always enjoyed a good joke!
Per her wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Springfield Baptist Church, 1920 Krumroy Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. The memorial service is at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Larry Baldridge will officiate. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pilot Dogs, 625 W. Town St., Columbus, Ohio 43215 (pilotdogs.org).
All arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio.
