Ralph Edward Monk, 78, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord onAugust 6, 2007. He was born January 8, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to the late Edward & Mary (Timberlake) Monk. Ralph was a veteran of WWII having proudly served with the U.S. Army and later retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 30 years of service. He was a member ofthe American Legion Post 0566 and the 32nd Degree of Masons. "Our dad was a good-hearted man and always had a zest for life. He was youthful and loved classic cars, guitars and rock-n-roll music." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Monk; sisters, Olive Newman, Betty Hoffman, Loretta Jenkins and Dorothy Dillon. He is survived by his wife, Shirley J.; sons, Ralph G., Jesse (Carrie) and Brian A.; daughters, Patricia (Bob) Wortman, Brenda Rockhold (Walter) and Lisa Monk; grandchildren, Candy, Shawn, Jill, Heather, Alice and "Papa Ralph's" Alexandria; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Rujamen, Mary Ann Amendola, Imajean Parks, Delores Favalon and Phyllis Fox; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Friday at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. Friday until the service begins.
