Ralph W. Hershberger
Ralph W. Hershberger, 88, went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2008, the day of his 67th wedding anniversary. Ralph was born March 31, 1919 in Canton, Ohio to the late Rev. Mervin and Dorothy (nee Lesh) Hershberger. Ralph proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and served as a Summit County Deputy Sheriff for over 20 years. He owned a Sinclair station in Tallmadge and was the chief mechanic of a bus garage. Ralph was a longtime member of the Ellet Church of the Nazarene where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, head usher, and a Caravan volunteer. He will always be remembered for his generosity and his willingness to help out family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 67 years, Leona (nee Beach); children, Tom (Elizabeth), Dave (Hannah), Lorna Norton, Rick (Brenda), and Vickey Futrell; sisters, Eleanor Getz and Janice Covert; grandchildren, Dave (Robyn) Hershberger, Ron (Elsie) Norton, Steve Hershberger, Lorri Norton, Mark (Robi) Hershberger, Kirk (Amanda) Futrell, Jennifer Futrell, Heather (Matt) Brode, Selena (Michael) Pearce and Melissa Hershberger; great-grandchildren, Alicia Norton, Chris Hershberger, Seth Norton, Kayla Hershberger, Alex Hershberger, Matt Hershberger, Devin Norton, Elijah, Cheyenne, Cody, Hannah, Savannah, and Cody. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Thursday at 12 p.m. with visitation from 10-12. Interment at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield.
