Ramona Theresa Meekins

Ramona T. Meekins, 81, of Akron, passed away on January 13, 2023. A lifelong resident of Akron, she was born on July 3, 1941 to the late Dominic and Santa {Basile} Papeschi.

In addition to her parents, Ramona is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Meekins and sister Katherine Nolan.

Ramona is survived by her loving children Gary Pitman Jr. of Stow, James Pitman, Tamara Birch, Patricia (Robert) Acord, all of Akron, Cathy Head of Mingo Junction, and Curtis (Kathy) Meekins of Springfield Township; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters Roberta Quillen, Donna (Wade) Jackson, Frances Marino and Joanne Schlosser.

Ramona worked as a crossing guard for 35 years for the Akron Public Schools. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and the friends she made while doing so.

Ramona was the matriarch of a very large and loving family. Some of her favorite memories with them included their trips to the beach. Ramona loved her family more than anything, and always supported them, and was there to cheer on their accomplishments. Her family count themselves blessed to have her as their Mom, Gra-mona, Great-Grandma and Sister.

All are welcome to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Friday, January 20 from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Keith Emhoff officiating. Private inurnment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, where Ramona will be laid to rest with Charles.
