Ray A. Swaney, 64, passed away December 4, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Uniontown, PA and moved to the Akron area in 1959. Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS John R. Perry (DE-1034) and the USS Dewey (DLG-14). For the last 28 years, he was a loyal employee of the Hygenic Corp. Ray was an avid church-goer, attending services at Suffield Springs Golf Course. Preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Helen Swaney; brother, Charles Swaney; and his loyal dog, Shadow. Ray is survived by the love of his life, Susan, having been married for 40 years; two loving daughters, Doreen Jeffers and Helen (Brian) Gray; 3 grandchildren, Brettina, Ariel and Adam Jeffers; sister, Alice (Bill) Montgomery; brothers, Jim (Diane) and Joseph (Dee); many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Lizzie Lou. A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, December 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a Rosary service will take place at 7 p.m. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, December 10, at 11 am. Private burial service at a later date.
