Ray S. Christner
Ray S. Christner, 75, passed away October 11, 2004. Ray was born January 20, 1929 in Somerset County, PA to the late Ralph and Sadie Christner. Ray entered the U.S. Army on September 9, 1947 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on August 31, 1951 and married Mary Hotchkiss on July 4, 1952 in Frostburg, MD. They moved to Akron, where Ray was employed at BF Goodrich for over 32 years. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty and Eva, and granddaughter, Angie. He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Ray "Butch", Jr. (Sherry), Margie (Bill) Simmons, Glenn (Pam), William (Joyce), and Wendy (Jerry) Hatcher; siblings, Jack (Alice), Janet (Grady) Gilpin, and Jim (Shirley); grandchildren, Staci (Mike) Martin, Ed, Chris, Terry, and Brandin Christner; great-grandson, Ty Christner. Friends and family may call TODAY from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER-FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jim Jensen officiating. Visitation for one hour prior to service. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park with military honors provided by Mogadore VFW 8487. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sawyerwood United Methodist Church or Hospice Visiting Nurses Service.
