Ray F. Lewis
Ray F. Lewis, 78, of Akron, passed away November 13, 2007 at Akron City Hospital. He was born March 10, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to the late F. Ray and Mary Pauline (Flaherty) Lewis. Ray served in the Korean War where he received the bronze star for valor. Ray was a District Manager for Ohio Bell Telephone Company, and longtime member of the Ohio Bell Foreman's Club and Mogadore V.F.W. 8487. Throughout his lifetime he pursued his love of furniture making and woodworking, as well as being an an avid fisherman. More than anything, he was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. Ray will be remembered by his family and loved ones as a man of service. He served God, his country, parents, family and wife faithfully with love and joy. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary E. (Lippiatt) Lewis of Akron; sons, Jeffrey R. (Debi) of Toledo, Gregory A. (Susana) of Wadsworth and Richard J. (Lynn) of Westerville; grandchildren, Courtney, Grant, Lauren, Christopher and Caroline; sister, Catherine Looker of Youngstown; brother, Fred Lewis (Mary Patricia); and his beloved dog, Cleo. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. and Saturday from 1 - 2 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mike Prebynski of the Akron Baptist Temple officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Summit County MS Society, Akron Baptist Temple, or Akron City Hospital Palliative Care Center Foundation. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the Akron City Hospital's ICU and Palliative Care Center staff for their wonderful care and support of Ray and the family during his hospitalization.
