Ray S. Szwejk, 73, of Akron, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 6, 2022. He graduated from North High School and joined the US Army where he served during the Vietnam War. He worked for Meggitt for over twenty years in the maintenance department, where he developed many great relationships.
Ray was an avid carpenter and built many of the pieces in the family home. He loved playing guitar and was passionate about astronomy, World War II aircraft, building model airplanes, spending time in nature, and going out to breakfast with friends.
In the last year of his life, Ray and his daughter Jen enjoyed spending time laughing and talking and taking quizzes on WWII trivia. She is forever grateful for the care that was provided by the doctors and nurses at Heather Knoll, where he was known for having a stash of pop and candy that he always encouraged the staff to enjoy.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes Szwejk; and sister, Kathy Heckaman.
He will be missed by his daughter, Jennifer (Terry) Cady; brother, John (Helen) Szwejk; and his loved step-children and grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Ray will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ray's memory to the Haven of Rest Ministries at havenofrest.org
