Ray A. Weaver, age 91 of Akron, died on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Akron City Hospital. He was born on October 26, 1927, to the late James and Vivian (nee Cooper) Weaver. He and his family moved to Ohio at age 5, but he never forgot his Alabama roots.
He graduated from Hower Vocational High School. He started his career at Goodyear at the age of 16 in the cafeteria and moved up to other production and experimental jobs at Goodyear; he retired from Goodyear with 42 years service.
His passion was pre- and post-War cars, and his automotive knowledge was unsurpassed in that area. That passion continued until his passing. Ray could still recite every detail of the working mechanics, body styles, and colors of the cars of his era. He was a member of the Buick Club of America for over 60 years.
Ray designed and perfected the molding of replacement plastics for Buick Eight inserts, gearshift and radio knobs, steering wheels, etc., for pre- and post-War vehicles and fulfilled a dire need for these parts for car enthusiasts.
He was an accomplished guitar player and instilled in his family a love for bluegrass, early country, and impromptu porch jam sessions.
He and Caryl enjoyed traveling to various car meets and other events, Vegas, and touring all parts of the country by themselves and with friends and family, providing a (Large!) legacy of slides and photos of their adventures.
He is survived by his two girls, Juanita Weaver (Joe Thatcher) "#1 Daughter/Babe," and Dorothy (Tim) Perry -"#2 Daughter/Dorf" and beloved pet, Spanky, the cat.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Caryl on August 18, 2018. They were united in marriage on May 22, 1948. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Gerald of Tennessee.
