Raymond E. Watson, 74, of Akron, passed away February 5, 2013 after a short illness.
Ray was born in McConnellsville, Ohio on April 19, 1938 and came with his family at a young age to Akron, Ohio. Ray served in the US Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post 496. He worked for many years at Firestone Tire and Rubber and retired from RH Myers Homes as a master carpenter. There was nothing he could not fix or build (he would tell you often). He loved making wonderful things for family and friends. He was an outdoors person and loved fishing.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Freda P (Tucker) Watson.
Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Judith Arlene (Grimes) Watson, sons Randy (Kelly) Watson of Akron, OH, Ron (Ann) Watson of Canton, OH; daughter, Moni (Dr. Mark) Peterson of Central Point, OR; grandchildren, Tylor, Erika and Anna Peterson, Grace and Ella Watson. He is also survived by brothers, Gerald (Helen) Watson, Roger (Wilma) Watson of Akron, OH, Greg (Linda) Watson of New Hampshire; sisters, Edna R Conn of Medina, OH, Pat (Terry) Langford of New Hampshire. Many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his friends he loved to hang around with.
A special comment for his grandchildren – Tylor, Erika, Anna, Grace and Ella - "He loved you all so much."
Family and friends may call on Saturday, February 9, from 3-6 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will follow calling hours at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. James Gergon officiating.
A private family burial will be at Fairview, Ohio on Monday, February 11 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to your favorite charity in Ray's name.
