Raymond F. "Rambo" Barry, Sr., age 75, left us to begin his journey on Monday, July 15, 2013 supported by the love of his family. He was born on February 7, 1938 to the late Marjorie Barry in Altoona, PA. Ray retired from TNT Holland Transport in 1997 and worked as a process server for Portage County. Ray enjoyed traveling, politics, gambling, watching his Bengals, playing cards and the morning gatherings with his buddies swapping lies. He often attended the sporting events of his family and friends and was an active member of his community and his church.
Ray is survived by his wife of 24 years, Teri Barry, children; Pamela S. (Andy) Lucero, Warren G. Barry, Jerimie J. McKinley, Jamie (Bryan) McKinley-Taylor, grandchildren; Bryan (DeCarlos) Hammer, Raymond F. Barry, III, AJ Hammer, Xzandria and Jonathon McKinley, Katriyana "Kat" and Aleutian Taylor; 6 great grandchildren, sister, Edna "Pinky" Hoskins, sister-in-law, Ruth Reed; many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, sons; Raymond F. Barry, Jr. and Christopher Atkins; siblings; John, Eleanor and Pat. Rambo skated through this life touching many lives and leaving many broken hearts behind. True to his word "No woman tells me what to do" to the very end. He will always be a legend in our minds and the family wishes his services to be a celebration in honor of his passion for life.
Friends may call 1-3 PM and 5-8 PM on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305. A 'Celebration of Life' service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Suffield United Church of Christ, 1115 State Route 43, Suffield, OH 44260 with Pastor Barry Bordenkircher officiating. Final resting place will be at Hillside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lifebanc, PO Box 74174, Cleveland, OH 44194-4174. Ray was a lung transplant recipient on February 23, 2008 through Lifebanc in Cleveland. We are blessed that he was able to spend five and a half more years with us.
