Raymond E. Jackson, "Ray", age 92 of Brimfield, Ohio, died on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 7:56 PM at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna.
He was born on March 1, 1926 in Akron, the son of the late Phillip M. and Gladys (nee Eads) Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was an honorably discharged US Marine veteran of WWII, he was also a purple heart recipient, survivor of Iwo Jima-he was there when they raised the US flag.
Ray retired from GoodYear after 42 years of service. He owned A and B Signs after retirement. Ray always took care of his family and worked three jobs for many years, including selling books-Highlights For Children. He enjoyed fishing. Ray was in the Brimfield Chamber of Commerce-he was a real people person. He, and his wife of almost 71 years, were members of Grace Cathedral and former members of the Church of God in Ellet.
Survivors include his son, Dennis, and his wife, Ana Jackson of Brimfield; His daughter, Debbie McGiffin; his daughter-in-law, Melanie Charnas; his four grandchildren, Raymon Jackson, Zane Charnas, Alaina and Dylan Jackson, and Blake and Phillip Hammond; and several great-grandchildren.
Other than his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife, the former Ruthanne Parrish, on October 26, 2016, they were united in marriage on January 23, 1946; his son, Mark Jackson; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 3:00 PM, where Pastor Dan Roland will celebrate Raymond's life.
Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.
Raymond will be laid to rest next to his wife on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Restland Cemetery, Brimfield.
