Raymond L. Christy
Raymond L. Christy passed away August 22, 2010. He was born in Ravenna, Ohio on March 9, 1921 to Alverton & Eva Christy and lived in Akron since 1942. He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the Army Air Force from September 1942 to October 1945. Raymond served 15 months in the China, India, and Burma Theater flying the Himalaya Mountains as a Crew Chief in the Air Transport Command. He received the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross. He graduated from the University of Akron with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1949. Raymond was employed at Goodyear for 11 years and retired from the NRM Steelastic Corp. in 1986 with 30 years of service. He traveled extensively throughout the world for his work. Raymond was a member of New Horizons Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He was also active in years past with Boy Scout Troop #307. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Violet; sons, John (Judy) of Georgia and David (Ann) of Medina; granddaughters, Leigh of California and Cheryl of Medina; brother-in-law, Ralph Monroe of Ravenna;numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George; and sister, Helen Monroe. A funeral service will be conducted at New Horizons Christian Church on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Bane officiating. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins. Private interment will take place at Hillside Memorial Park. If friends desire, memorials may be made to New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Rd., Akron OH 44305 or to your favorite charity.
