Rebecca M. Deger, "Becky", age 72 of Akron, Ohio, went to be with Jesus on November 20, 2018.
She was born on November 12, 1946 in Akron, the daughter of the late George and Ann (nee Cermak) Deger.
Becky was a graduate of St. Mary High School and the University of Akron. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and retried after 20 plus years of service from EANDC where she improved housing for low income people.
She has always been a fighter. From being on the front lines of protests, to helping the MS Society, her fire has passed on to generations. Becky faithfully served the church, as well as, organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and the Akron Blind Center. She ran an in-home daycare so she could be a stay-at-home mom to her boys. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her two sons, Mark (Laura Lemessurier) Deger and Jeremy (Anna) Deger; and her grandchildren, Steven, Justin, Savanna, Abbie, Eden, and Karis. Her siblings also survive, Dianne Nathaniel, Bruce Deger, Joyce Cosgrove, and Shannon Cox.
Other than her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Cana Deger; and among her friends, her dearest Martha Smith.
Memorial services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 4:00 PM, where Pastor Don Viebranz will celebrate Becky's life.
Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Becky and her wishes, she asked that you do a random act of kindness.
