Retha S. Grubbs
Retha S. Grubbs, 82, went home to be home with her Lord and Savior on April 2, 2009. Retha was a devoted member of Grace Cathedral for almost 40 years, and she worked there as one of the leaders of the cleaning crew for 20 years. She had great vision for missions and spent many hours making candy, selling crafts and organizing the Ernest Angley Ministries' annual yard sale – one of Akron's largest – to help take the Lord's Gospel to the world. Her many efforts will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carl Grubbs, Sr.; sisters, Bessie South, Irene and Sadie Coulson; and brothers, Garnett, Harry, Harvey, Carl, Carson and Ray Stone. She is survived by sons, Ray (Jeanne) Spangler, James Jr. (Cathy) Grubbs, and Ronnie (Grace) Grubbs; grandchildren, Paul (Mandy) Spangler, Shawna (Rob) Logsdon, Jeremy (Sally) Grubbs and Beau (Tara) Grubbs; sisters, Annie Rudolph and Lynn Hawley; and brother, Roy Stone. She is also survived and loved by many great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 12 noon at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron with Rev. Brock Miller and Rev. Bob Hoffman officiating. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Newcomer Funeral Home. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
