Elizabeth "Liz" E. Schlegel, 88, of Hartville went home to be with the Lord on December 28, 2018. Liz was born on November 12, 1930 in Akron, Ohio to the late Ernest and Helen Pletcher. She graduated from Ellet High School. She married the love her life, Russell Schlegel on June 30, 1950. They later founded the Cottage Prayer Chapel in 1976. She was very active in nursing home ministry and home bible studies, and was very faithful in serving the Lord. Liz's greatest desire in life was to see everyone saved, and this was a mission she followed all the way to her final breath.
In addition to her parents, Liz was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Rev. Russell Schlegel.
Left to cherish Liz's memory are her children, Ruth (Bill) Smith, Beverly (Raymond) Noland, Russell (Brenda) Schlegel, Bonnie (Arthur) Thomas, Richard (Florence) Schlegel, Jennifer (Dan) Bradford; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren; brother, William Hall; sister, Ruth Jean Maish; many other family members, friends, and her church family; and her faithful feathered companion, George.
Friends and family are welcome to visit Newcomer 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, on Wednesday January 2, 2019 from 6pm until 8pm. A funeral service will take place at Cottage Prayer Chapel 3590 Sweitzer St. NW, Uniontown, OH 44685 on Thursday January 3, 2018 at 1pm with an hour of visitation prior. Major Sharon Payne to officiate. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
