Rev. William A. Lykins, 83, "graduated to glory" at 5AM, Thursday, January 19, 2012. Bill was born in Portsmouth, OH on April 16, 1928 to the late Luster and Matilda Lykins.
He was a student at the University of Kentucky, when he became ordained to pastor Pinckard Baptist Church in 1950 at Versailles, KY. He had married Laura Fannin on April 2, 1949. After college he attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary getting a Masters in Theology in 1957. Churches where he ministered were: First Baptist, Byesville, OH; Beulah Baptist, Proctorville, OH; Porterfield Baptist, Little Hocking, OH; two terms at Central Baptist, Portsmouth, OH; Grace Baptist, Akron, OH; First Baptist, Flora, IL. After retiring from the active pastorate in April 1993, he worked to complete a Verse by Verse, Word by Word lexicon of the Greek New Testament. This he donated to Tri-State Bible College in South Point, OH. This work is being shared with seminaries, colleges, ministers and missionaries. Tri-State hopes to get the lexicon published.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Laura; children, Victoria Nagle, Elizabeth and Jonathan Lykins; grandchildren, Rachel Ban, Erika Balzano and Caroline Lykins; great-grandchildren, Skye Thurston, Bryce and Alessa Balzano; half-brother, John Thomas Lykins; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at AGMC and Hospice of Ridgewood Rd.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 24 at 11 AM at The First Baptist Church, 1670 Shatto Ave., Akron.
Inurnment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH.
