Rex A. McVicker, Jr. 74, of Akron, passed away January 16, 2017. He was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on February 15, 1942 to the late Rex McVicker, Sr. and Dessie (William) Eubank. Rex was a graduate of Ellet High School class of 1960, attended the University of Akron and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a volunteer in the Red Cross Medical Transportation Department and a member of Masonic Lodge #789 for over 50 years. Rex retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. with 36 years of service.
Rex is survived by his loving wife Judy McVicker, whom he married on July 31, 1965. He will also be dearly missed by his daughters Anne (Dale Ross) McVicker and Erin (Chris) Stimmel; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jason) Phillips, Christina Stimmel, Hannah Tulley, Shane (Kihanna) McVicker, Amanda and Rebecca Ross; great-grandchildren, Ian, Emma, Zac and Eli; sisters-in-law, Jill Westerbeck and Kaye (Bob) Carpenter, and nephew, John Carpenter.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 2:00 pm until time of funeral service at 4:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rex's name to Al-Anon & Alateen, 3614 Manchester Rd. #103, Akron, OH 44319.
