Richard J. Nice, 81, joined his wife in Heaven on October 11, 2013.
Richard was born in Akron on October 10, 1932 to the late Joseph and Mildred Nice. He served our country in the Korean War with the US Army. Richard retired from Aircraft Braking Systems after 47 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, hiking, and spending time with family. He was Scoutmaster of Goodyear Troop #42, the same troop he belonged to as a youth. Richard also volunteered at several area nursing homes with his dogs. He will be remembered for his patience, sense of humor, and his ability to brighten anyone's day.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Ellie, his wife of 49 years; and brother, Milton.
Survivors include son, Bill (Linda); daughters, Kathi (Robert) Ridenour and Cheri (Kat) Nice; grandchildren, Michele (Jim), Jason, Malinda, Laura, and Leah.
Calling hours will be Friday, 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, 10-11 a.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., with Dr. David Weyrick officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Essex Healthcare, 563 Colony Park Dr., Tallmadge, OH 44278 or the Humane Society of Greater Akron 7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087.
