Richard "Dick" Reed, 75, of Akron, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013 after a long illness. Richard was born in Akron, Ohio on January 19, 1938 to the late Jack and Midred Reed (Christie).
Dick graduated from North High School and attended Kent State University. He was a part owner of Reed Sterling Industries. Then became owner of Christopher Machine Company and retired after years of service. Dick had a passion for vintage cars, cooking and remodeling. He enjoyed his animals, Sassy and Boots.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matt Bachus.
Dick is survived by his wife of 21 years, Yvonne (Bonnie). His children, Michelle, Christopher, Eric, Karen and grandchildren. Bonnie's children, Tammy (Rob) Jones and Todd Cummings. Her grandchildren, Ryan (Heather), Cory, Craig (Miriah), Jen (Jeremy) and Robert. Her great- grandchildren, Jayden and Talon; brother, Jack (Jackie). Sister-in-law, Sherry Barton and brother-in-law, Jasper Barton. Numerous nieces and nephews, as well as, wonderful neighbors, Betsy and her family.
Family and friends may call on Friday, June 28, from 3-4 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a funeral service will follow the calling hours at 4 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Joseph Boysel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Summa or the Alzheimers Association.
