Richard Joseph Sherwood

Richard Joseph "Dick" Sherwood, 81, of Akron, passed away on November 23, 2016. He was born in Akron on May 9, 1935 to the late Charles and Pauline Sherwood. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired from BF Goodrich after 38 years of service. He was a longtime member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Dick was active with the Ellet Athletic Association where he volunteered as an officer and a coach. He was an avid supporter of Father Flanagan's Boys Town and a devoted Notre Dame fan. Go Irish!
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Marion. He will be deeply missed by his children, Gregory (Laura) Sherwood, Gary (Terry) Sherwood, and Mary (Dave) Walchalk; grandchildren, Jennifer (Patrick) Molony, Megan (Mike) Feldt, Joseph Sherwood, Nicole Sherwood, and Charles Sherwood; great-granddaughter, Grace Molony.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2580 Berne St., Akron. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Father Flanagan's Boys Town, 14100 Crawford St, Boys Town, NE 68010.
