Rita Louise Hiatt Bier, 92, of Akron, passed away on March 28, 2021. She was born in Library, Pennsylvania on August 31, 1928 to the late John and Mary Mills. In her younger years, Rita was a professional dancer. She performed with the Rockettes and in traveling carnivals. After marrying Hubert Hiatt, they settled on a farm in Ohio and raised their family. In her later years, Rita was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Knitwits, a group that knits blankets and baby items for area organizations.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her first husband, Hubert Hiatt; second husband, John Bier; siblings, Dolly Stefanik, June Boatwright, Ruth Asure, and Leo Mills; granddaughter, Tamara Lynn Harris-Dodds.
Rita is survived by her children, John (Hong Lan) Hiatt and Jackquland Harris; grandson, John (Leigh) Hiatt and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Makayla, Bailey, Logan, Peyton, and Cadence; granddaughter, Jacqueline (John) Knight and great-grandchild, Victoria Patterson, granddaughter, Michele Harris, granddaughter, Linda (Travis) Spainhour and great-grandchildren, Alexis and Tristan, grandson, Alexander Hiatt, and great-granddaughter, Madison, daughter of Tamara and Ron Dodds. Rita will also be missed by extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 p.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. funeral service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Please plan on wearing a mask and practicing social distancing. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.
