Robert E. Burns, 91, left peacefully on January 3, 2023 after a recent illness. Born on January 10, 1931 to parents Robert Burns of Akron and Marie Burns, who was a native of Indianapolis. Both have since passed and we know they greeted their son with loving open arms upon his reuniting with them.
Robert E. Burns lived in Akron, Ohio and graduated in 1949 from Green High School. Upon graduating, he joined the Army and worked up to the ranks of Sergeant during his four years. He later joined Airborne before returning to his hometown to work for his father at Burns Bros Painting. If you knew Bob personally, you would know that he had a knack for words, which led him to work in Sales for the Union Pacific Railroad until he retired after 30 years.
Bob loved traveling and enjoyed many adventures with his wife, Donna for more than 34 years. When they weren't cruising across the country in their motor home, they enjoyed going on cruises where they were able to make additional memories on the water together.
He was and avid Ohio sports fan for life, but his favorite team was the Ohio State Buckeyes where you could witness him rooting for them at many of the Championship games he attended. Bob also had a love for history and hearing stories from WWII.
Bob loved his family and friends immensely. He spent his retirement years very well alongside his wife and their loved ones during holidays, birthday parties, and family gatherings.
Bob leaves behind his wife Donna Cooper-Burns, daughter Karen (John) Cox of Gallatin, MO; sons Eric (Julie) Burns of Columbus, OH, Robert V. Burns of Peoria, AZ; granddaughter Ashley (Chandler) Ginn of AZ; stepchildren Robert (Roxanne) Smyth of Akron, Arlene (Howard) Cunard; and many other grandchildren, including great- great, and great! He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Blabac of Akron.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert and Marie Burns; brother Richard Burns; and step-daughter Bonnie Johnson.
