Robert "Bob" M. Hughes

Robert "Bob" M. Hughes passed away peacefully on April 24, 2018 after a long struggle with diabetes and Alzheimer's at the age of 84. Bob graduated from Garfield high school in 1951 and later retired from Goodyear Tire. He remained active with his family and grandchildren as well as many organizations within his community and hometown of Akron, Ohio including Goodyear Hunting and Fishing Club, Portage Field and Stream Club, Golf League, Senior Bowling League, Ellet Baseball Association, and Mogadore Moose Club. Bob was an avid sports fan, fisherman, and hunter.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved Daughter Kathlene "Kitty" Narney (1969-2015) that left a big hole in his heart. Bob leaves behind his Wife of 63 years Darlene; Son Robert (friend Darlene); Brother Earl (Sylvia); Son-in-law Lee Narney; Granddaughters Stephanie (Joseph), Melissa, Rebecca (Mitchell), Courtney (Brian), Elizabeth (Cory), Kimberly, Michelle, and Megan; and 11 Great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral service will take place at 11am on Saturday, April 28, 2018 with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron to follow.

The family would like to thank his favorite nurses Maxine, Celia, and Breanna at Essex Health Care Center and Dr. Mark Smith for the excellent care he received.
