Robert C. Martin

Robert C. Martin, age 96 of Englewood, FL passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. He was born in Lakemore, OH on March 2, 1925, the son of the late Vernon and Maude (Burch) Martin.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife Dolores {Wellman} and son Brent, his sister Lucille Oravec, and brothers John and Francis.
Robert will be dearly missed by his son, Greg (Chris) Martin; daughter Shelley (Paul) Lantz; eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and his nephew and valued friend Vincent Moore.
Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He served as a WWII Marine dive bomber Radio Gunner flying numerous combat missions against the enemy in the South Pacific. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat, and Five Air Medals.
He retired with over 40 years of service with the R.C. Musson Rubber Company of Akron, Ohio.
Robert was a Life Member and Past Commander of VFW Post 10178 at Englewood, FL. He was also a Mason and a member of the Moose.
Per Robert's wishes, cremation has taken place, and he will be laid to rest with his wife, Dolores and son, Brent at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron. Friends and family are welcome to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, 44305 on Friday, August 13 from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the 12:00 noon service.
