Robert Pfenning

August 8, 1933 — April 17, 2024

Robert Pfenning, age 90, our beloved Father, Uncle and Friend to many passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 at Rockynol Nursing Home, Akron, Ohio after sustaining a massive stroke. Bob, the youngest of five children, was born to German immigrants, Joseph and Theresa Pfenning in Akron, Ohio on August 8, 1933. He grew up active in all sports and activities learning many skills by following his older brother Joe everywhere he went. Upon graduation from Central High School, he went to trade school and then went to work using those skills. He enlisted in the Army in 1954 and served proudly with the Third Armor Division in Stuttgart, Germany as a radio operator. After an honorable discharge in 1956, he came back to Akron and again went back to work for Goodyear and then as an auto mechanic and carpenter. He also became a very accomplished bowler and Softball player. His love for bowling allowed him to become a 300 bowler with many awards.

Following his work passion, he moved to Gulf Shores, Alabama becoming a talented finish carpenter, working on many special projects.

Yearning to see his friends and relatives, he moved back to Akron with his dog Pfrosty, working many jobs in the skilled trades and always helping friends with multiple projects.

Following his passion for bowling, he joined and became active with many friends in a bowling league. He also became a low handycap golfer. Never missing a family gathering, he endeared himself to all of his nieces and nephews. Still very active, he continued working at Akron City Golf Course until his passing.

He is survived by his daughter, Pati Patrick; son Robert Pfenning and nieces Karen McCartney, Kathie Powell, JoAnne Burns, Judy Sikoral, wife of deceased Dick Sikoral; nephews Tom Pfenning, Ron Pfenning, Jim Pfenning, Don Radish, Jim Schoen, husband of deceased Charlene Schoen; grandchildren, great-grand-nieces & nephews and extended families.
