Robert M. Polen, age 71, a long-time resident of Green, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Akron City Hospital. He was born November 8, 1949 in Steubenville, Ohio to Harold and Kathleen (Coss) Polen. Bob was employed with Green Local Schools for 36 years. He was also a member of the Eagles Post #501 since 2008.
Bob enjoyed the outdoors, a trait he shared with his father, and he was an avid camper, traveling with his 5th Wheel to various State and National Parks throughout Ohio. Raised in Green and a graduate of the class of 1968, he liked to tell stories about his home town including the arrival of Interstate 77, which caused his childhood house to be moved back to make way for the exit ramp, and the neighbor lady who gave out cider and homemade donuts for trick-or-treat when he was a kid. A sci-fi fan from the day he saw his first movie, he got a kick out of quizzing you on trivia related to Star Trek. Every year he looked forward to attending the county fairs to eat a sausage sandwich and watch the band shows, reflecting on his own time in the high school and county bands. A true Green bulldog, he enjoyed spending Friday nights watching high school football games.
Bob will be missed by his buddies who gathered for coffee in the mornings at McDonalds and those friends who joined him at Pancho's for a margarita.
His parents preceded him in death. Robert is survived by his daughter, Kirstin (Sergio Campi) Polen de Campi, granddaughter, Natasha Campi-Polen and many dear friends.
His ashes will be spread in the Smoky Mountains according to his wishes.
Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association in Bob's memory.
