Robert R. Gates
Robert R. Gates, 88, of Akron, passed away January 5, 2013. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio on August 9, 1924 to the late J.P. and Beatrice Gates.
Robert retired from CSX System after 44 years as a railroad conductor. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, motorcycles, and building model airplanes. He loved Country and Western music and was a talented steel guitar player.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; and brothers, Richard and Ronald (Mary Lou). He will be deeply missed by his sons, John and Bob; brother, Charles (Roma); sister-in-law, Evelyn; grandchildren, Christopher Gates, Jason Kungl, and Tanya Moorehead; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday January 11 from 11-1 followed by a 1:00 p.m. funeral service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
