Robert E. Simers
Robert E. Simers, age 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 11, 2007 after a long illness. He was born in Akron, Ohio and was a graduate of Akron North High and the University of Akron. During World War II, he served in Europe with the United States Army. He was employed for over 34 years by IBM. Robert was a member of the Southeast Church of the Nazarene and had been active in Church work until his illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mary Simers; his brother, William; and a sister, Mildred. He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Gladys of Akron; daughter, Kathleen (Gerald) Dietrick of Suffield; sons, Lawrence (Sharon) of Suffield and Ronald (Jo) of Mt. Holly, NC; grandchildren, Marla (Carlos) Figueroa, Kimberly, Kenneth (Melissa), Ryan, and Robert Simers, Kathleen (James) Starkey, and Matthew Dietrick; step-grandchildren, Annette (James) Soles, Aimee (Harold) Edwards, Gerald (Beverly) Jr., and Donald Dietrick; nine step-great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Grafmiller of Joplin, MO; brother-in-law, Charles Beougher of Green; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral service Friday at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the Southeast Church of the Nazarene, 771 Dunbar Rd. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southeast Church of the Nazarene or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
