Robert L. Smiley

Robert L. Smiley, 82, passed away September 29, 2023 with his family by his side. Born in Akron, Ohio to Joseph and Erma (Ferency) Smiley, he was a lifelong area resident. Bob retired from Babcock & Wilcox, where he worked for 33 years. His love for painting led him to a second career as a self employed painter. He enjoyed working in the yard, fishing and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Marion Blanco, Joe Smiley. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Myra; children, Shelly (Dave) Pierce, Denise (Doug) Miller, Pam (Frank) Sieneski, Chris Smiley; step-children, Ronald (Debbie) Raack, Dale (Valerie) Raack, Melanie Raack; grandchildren, Megan (Anthony), Michael (Anna), Stephanie, Kimberly (Vince), Kelly, Frank, Jr., Beau, Benjamin, Bobby, Barbara (Steve), Lauren (Justin), Justin (Kari), Ashley (Kevin), Heather, Stephanie (Jacob); 24 great grandchildren; siblings, Jean Meidlinger, Bill (Linda) Smiley; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bob also leaves behind his favorite feline companions, Nano & Muffin. Another favorite was Smi-Ling, who passed away back in 2016.

Bob was a faithful member of the church for over 25 years, where he served as a trustee, belonged to the cleaning crew and assisted the pastor with many projects.

Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, October 6, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at The Chapel of Prayer Baptist Church, 1811 Brittain Rd., Akron. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the church, with Pastor Sherman Bailey officiating. Interment will take place at Silver Springs Cemetery in Stow. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Bob's name to the church building fund.
