Robert William Ray, Jr. "Homey"
Robert William Ray, Jr., 71, of Akron, passed away August 28, 2013. He was born in Akron on January 21, 1942. Homey proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a volunteer for the Salvation Army for seven years and recently received an award for his good service. In his free time, Homey enjoyed bowling, pool and playing cards. He was quick with a joke and had an endless knowledge of trivia. He could often be found watching wrestling or the Cleveland Browns on television. Above all, Homey loved being around people and made friends with everyone he met.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill; and sisters, Margaret and Blanche. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Phyllis; children, Robert Ray, Billy (Lana) Ray, Gina Ray, and Jeannine (Lem) Mequi; twin sister, Roberta and sisters, Marilyn, Dorothy, Donna, and Mary; grandchildren, Melissa, Avery, Randi, Benjamin, Isaac, and Jeremy; brother-in-law, Lloyd (Missy) Burmeister; cousin, Vicki Sue Thomas; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 7 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Per Homey's request, please consider bringing a favorite photo to place with him. A procession will form for a 2:00 committal service at Rose Hill Burial Park. A memorial service will be officiated by Ministry Assistant Kenny Weber on Sunday September 8 at 3:00 p.m. with a dinner to follow at the Salvation Army, 190 S. Maple St., Akron, Ohio 44303.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
