Roger Daniel Covey
Roger Daniel Covey, 60, passed away on September 20, 2007. He was born in Akron on October 6, 1946 and graduated from Garfield High School in 1965. Roger was a Reserve with the National Guard and a member of the Junior Order. He retired from the pipe insulators union local #84 after 30 years of service. Roger was a hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman, biker, gardener, and "Mr. Fix-it". He was also a championship go-cart racer in his youth. He enjoyed watching the birds and butterflies from his swing in the back yard and spending time at his second home in Greenville, TX. Roger also loved to travel, most recently completing his dream journey to Alaska. Roger was a very friendly individual who could talk to anyone; he never met a stranger. Preceded in death by his brother Alvin Randolph Covey, Jr. and sister Carol Ann Covey. Survivors include his loving wife and Boon companion of 12 years, Nancy; parents Alvin and Ida Covey; daughter Cindy (David) Bargerstock; son Christopher Covey; stepdaughter Deirdre (Darren) Brown; stepsons Chris (Maria) and Adam (Jill) Repko; grandchildren Kyle, Tiffany Renee, Dakota, Derek, Demi, Alanna, Alexandria, Amelie; brothers Jerry (Vicki) and Gordon (Tana) Covey; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure 5005 LBJ Fwy., Ste. 250 Dallas, TX 75244 in memory of his sister Sue and other family members afflicted by breast cancer.
