Roger Gartrell, 68, passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 2021. Born in Ravenswood, West Virginia, he resided in the Tallmadge area most of his adult life. He was an avid bowler, pool player, loved a game of darts and enjoyed fast cars until complications of diabetes and heart issues took his sight. He loved all genres of music and listening to books.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Betty Jo (Shockey) Gartrell. He leaves behind his sister, Joyce and niece, Tracie (Alex) Smith. The family appreciates Linda Riley "the love of Roger's life" for all the time and help she provided to them over many years.
Also a special thanks to longtime friend, Doug Walmsley for his help over the years, especially when they enjoyed having Roger's favorite Guinness beer and a cheeseburger at Ozzy's. Thanks also to Lisa Markey who provided library books and became a true friend to Roger.
Besides various health issues Roger lived quite independently and fought a good fight. His beloved sister Joyce was a constant and important part of his daily life.
Roger loved the outdoors and is now free from pain. With God he can enjoy "sunshine on his shoulders" for
eternity.
A memorial service will take place Friday, October 8, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, 4724 State Rd., Peninsula, Ohio.
