Ronal John Conner, Sr. was called home to the Lord Thursday, April 28, 2022, following a brief illness. Ron was born April 1, 1942, in Akron, Ohio, and spent a lifetime serving his family, his church, his community, and his friends.
Ron coached his sons in baseball and football and was president of the Hot Stove Baseball Association. He was an adviser in 4-H and a member of the Randolph Lions Club. He was a member of High Street Christian Church, now Harmony Springs Christian Church, where he served as Deacon, Elder and Trustee, as well as a teacher for youth and adult Sunday school. Ron enjoyed family vacations, which created memories, laughter, and stories that are still talked about with smiles. After retirement, family vacations turned into epic "trips" with a group of close friends. When Ron wasn't serving, he absolutely cherished his 6-acre home in Randolph. Whether he was taking a tour of the property on his golf cart with his dog in the passenger seat or watching the wildlife from his chair in the sunroom, peace and contentment was found. To friends and family, he was a man that was always available to provide help, no matter the task: construction, repairs to homes and autos, a ride, some advice, or just an ear to listen. He was truly a great person who believed, "a man never stands taller as when he stoops to help a child."
Ron graduated from Springfield High School in 1960 and began working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he retired after 40 years of service. While at Goodyear, he received a $10,000 invention award, which was the largest sum awarded at that time.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Orville (Buck) and Alice (Joy) Conner. Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, of 60 years. His memory will live on with his three sons, nine grandchildren, great granddaughter, and countless other close friends and family. His sons: Michael (Lori) of Uniontown, Patrick (Mikelle) of Ormond Beach, and Ronal Jr. (Veronica) of Ravenna, his grandchildren: Drew Harris, Brandon (Erica) Conner, Maggie (Joe) Monroe, Rachael (David) Carolan, Ian, Bailey, Jackson, Regan, and Riley Conner, great granddaughter, Murphy, and his sister, Gayla Brent.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 5 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A celebration of life will be held Friday, May 6 at 11:00am, with both being held at Newcomer Funeral Home: 131 N Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305.
