Ronald Lee Dies was born in Indiana, PA on December 17, 1942, and passed away unexpectedly on November 5, 2011. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Velma Dies and brothers, Bill and Bob. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joy, and daughters, Bethany (Bill) Lemley and Brittany (Alan) Shiplett; grandchildren, Olivia, Claudia, Veronica, Sierra, Savanna, Shianne, Slade and Soren; brothers, Joe (Mardy) and Jerry (Judy); sisters, Donna (Roger) and Judy (Rich); and many extended family members. Ronnie grew up in Springfield Twp. and attended Springfield High School. He served in the Army National Guard for eleven years following high school and worked as a machinist for many years, retiring from work full-time in 2008 at Rubber Associates, Barberton, but continuing to work there part-time. He was one of those few people you meet in life who immediately treats you like a friend for life. "Papaw" loved his grandchildren with all his heart. Family was everything to him. He was known as a hard worker, strong and fearless, witty and compassionate. Joy will miss his humor, his friendship, but most of all, his love. Joy's sisters, Karen and Connie, also valued his strength in facing the loss of their sister, dad, and mom and loved him like a brother. His faith in God was evident, and he freely shared his faith by participating for many years in the church bus ministry, Sunday School teaching, and various sports…his skill as a third baseman is legendary. His favorite Bible verse was Phil 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." He will be missed by all whose lives he touched and will never be forgotten. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m., Pastor Harold Bradley of the Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Uniontown, will officiate. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
