Rosetta Martin Toles was born June 18, 1942 in a little house on Evans Ave in Akron, Ohio. She was the 7th daughter born to James and Magnolia {Whatley} Martin.
Rose, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Carrolton High School while living and working on the family farm in Mechanicstown, Ohio.
After High School she married James Toles, Sr and there followed the birth of four children whom she loved dearly.
In 2006 Rosetta retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service.
Rosetta had a passion and gift for singing that developed quite young. By the time she was a teenager she was touring churches and venues with her perfect pitch and piercing tone. As an adult she lent her talents to the Postal Choir and the Akron Choral Group.
She also enjoyed playing the piano, solving puzzles, watching old westerns, reading and gardening. She found particular joy in entertaining family and friends with delicious home cooked meals and her famous float on a beautifully dressed table of fine china, silverware and crystal from her own collection.
Rosetta loved exquisite things - patterns, fragrances, fabrics that spoke to her traditional and sophisticated sense of style and decorum. She was such a "Lady". Rosetta was fiery and fiercely loyal. She was supportive of her friends and loved ones. She was stubborn and generous, resourceful, clever and witty. She loved words (their proper use and pronunciation) and history.
On the morning of Sunday, December 19, 2021 Rosetta surrendered to the call of her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her mother, Magnolia Whatley; father, James Martin; husband, James Toles Sr.; 2 sons Jonathan Toles and James Toles Jr.; and 4 sisters, Gloria Rigby, Pola Jeffries, Sigar Martin, and Robia Key.
She leaves to cherish her memory son, David Allen Toles; daughter, Jennifer R. Toles; 4 grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Leonard) Remmer; Brittany Toles, Mason Fear, Xavier Toles; 4 great-grandchildren Jada, Aiden, Aubrey, Jurni; 2 sisters Connie Walker and Elizabeth Lander; aunts Emily Sewell and Mary Mitchell; special niece and nephew Michelle and Leon Byrd, dear friend of over 50 years Sally Griffith; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
