Roy Avery, 81, of Akron, passed away August 16, 2008 after a long illness. Roy was born July 16, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up on a farm in Brimfield and graduated from East High School in Akron. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was employed at Goodyear Aerospace and later Loral Systems from 1953 to 1987, where he worked in airship assembly and wheel/brake assembly. He was very active in the union, serving as chief steward. Roy was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Browns, Ohio State, and the Indians. He was preceded in death by his eleven brothers and one sister; and his former wife Mary (Stoler) to whom he was married for 22 years. He will be deeply missed by his son, Roy M. (Diane) Avery of Akron and daughter, Denise Avery of Medina; five grandsons and two granddaughters; three great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Thursday at 12 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
