Roy P. Falls
Roy P. Falls, 88, went home to be with the Lord on June 30, 2005.
He was born to Frank and Gertrude Falls on the banks of the Greenbrier River in Ronceverte, West Virginia on April 12, 1917. Preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers, Roy leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth Falls, and three children: Jean Stiles of Ventura, California; Jay Falls of Kent, Ohio; and John Falls of Mansfield, Ohio. They gave Roy and Mary eight grandchildren (Dan Falls, Amanda Falls, Sarah Stiles, Jesse Falls, Rebekah Stiles, Katie Falls, Hannah Stiles, and Anna Stiles) and one great grandchild, Alex Falls.
Roy grew up mostly in Monroe County, West Virginia, except for some time in Connersville, Indiana. After the loss of both parents and his sisters, Roy and his brothers, Herman and Earl, were orphaned. Roy went to live with his grandparents while his two brothers went to live with other family members. Roy's grandparents were farmers, and Roy proved to be a valuable asset to them until he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) for a brief hitch. In 1940, Roy moved to Ravenna, Ohio, and began working at the Ravenna Arsenal, laying railroad tracks.
From there Roy was called in defense of his county when bombs fell on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. His 37th Infantry Division was deployed to the South Pacific where he served for two years. After almost five years in the Army, Roy moved to Akron with this wife where he lived in Ellet while he worked for The General Tire & Rubber Company for 34 years. His was active in both the Arlington Memorial Baptist Church as a member, head usher, and Sunday school teacher and the Crossroad Bible Fellowship.
Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, gardening, and hiking. He loved bluegrass music and frequently played and sang with friends around the Akron area. He also served as a Republican Precinct Committee worker for many years.
A devout Christian, Roy loved people and his family and hopes we'll all be together one day with Jesus.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 6, 11 am to 1 pm at Crossroads Bible Fellowship with a funeral service at 1 pm. Interment will be at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron.
